Who it's for
You want dollar savings that earn more than a bank, with no exposure to SOL's price. You accept smart contract risk in exchange.
Where the yield comes from
Borrowers pay interest to borrow your USDC, usually to go long SOL or loop LSTs. Rates float with demand: higher in bull markets, lower in quiet ones. Some vaults add token rewards on top.
Steps
- Get USDC on Solana (from an exchange on the Solana network, or bridge in).
- Pick two markets to split across, for example: - Jupiter Lend: supply USDC in Earn. - Kamino: supply USDC in the main market or a curated Earn vault.
- Supply. Connect, choose USDC, enter an amount, approve. You receive a receipt token or position.
- Optional: spread it across vaults. Backyard Finance lets you combine vaults from Kamino, Perena, Jupiter and others into one USDC strategy. You take on the risks of every vault you add, so keep it to protocols you'd use directly.
- Check monthly. Rates change; move only if the difference is meaningful after fees.
What to expect
Recently, USDC lending on the largest Solana markets paid roughly 4% to 8%, with curated or RWA-backed vaults sometimes higher. Fixed alternatives exist: Loopscale and Exponent let you lock a rate for a set term (see the fixed rate playbook).
Risks
- Smart contract and oracle risk in the lending market.
- Bad debt if a liquidation fails during a crash.
- Liquidity crunch: when a pool is nearly fully borrowed, withdrawals can wait until borrowers repay or rates pull in more lenders.
- Stablecoin risk: USDC itself could depeg in an extreme event.
- Curator risk in vaults that lend to isolated markets.
Exit plan
Withdraw from the same app. If utilization is very high, withdraw in parts or wait a few hours; the rate spike that follows usually frees liquidity quickly.
Level up
- Add a slice of a yield-bearing dollar or RWA product (real-world yield).
- Lock part of your balance at a fixed rate.
